ICYMI: Thanos is in ‘Fortnite’ Now and It’s Completely Awesome

Thanos, conqueror of worlds and the Infinity Gauntlet, is now in Fornite, the massive free-to-play shooter that has taken over the world not too dissimilarly to Thanos himself. The crossover started from what Epic Games calls “a simple phone conversation between Epic and Marvel over a mutual appreciation for Fortnite and Avengers”, which apparently came about because Anthony and Joe Russo, the directors of Infinity War, play the game a lot.

In the special “Infinity War” mode, players start the match as usual, but somewhere on the map there is an Infinity Gauntlet to be found, and the player that finds it turns into the purple planet-killer himself, able to jump extremely high in the air and come crashing down with a ground-pound attack that can kill enemies in one hit. However, he is not invincible, and if you manage to take down the player in Thanos’ shoes they will drop the Infinity Gauntlet, passing the role on to whoever next picks it up.

Since the mode was implemented earlier this week the mode has been adjusted multiple times due to it being almost entirely unfair to players who aren’t Thanos, but players already have had lots of fun, editing Thanos dancing (all Fortnite players can dance, obviously) into other Marvel movies and also just freaking out at the general badassery that is Thanos flattening his enemies.

We’ve clearly come a long way from the movie tie-in games of the past, haven’t we?
