Razer to Shutter Its Game Store Amid Growing Competition
According to the announcement, the move was part of a realignment in company plans, likely due to ever-increasing competition in the digital distribution space.
“It has been a privilege for us to recommend and deliver great digital game deals to you. We have been extremely fortunate to have you as part of our awesome community. Thank you for the support and making all this possible,” stated the team.
The nail in the coffin likely came when Epic Games, creator of the ever-popular Fortnite franchise, launched its own platform, the Epic Games Store. Since that time, Epic has formed numerous publisher partnerships to offer exclusive titles, even landing Tom Clancy’s The Division 2.
Razer does note that it will continue to offer games through its Razer Gold and Silver reward programs, which allow gamers to buy keys and hardware by using virtual coins.
