According to a recent announcement, Hyper Jam draws inspiration from both fighting games and roguelites. The game features fully-fledged online multiplayer, where players must strategize how to battle with a plethora of weapons including rocket launchers, crossbows, hammers, katanas and more.
After selecting what weapon to wield, players must then decide how to stack various perks for their character. According to Roman Maksymyschyn, the director of Bit Dragon and creator of Hyper Jam, perk drafting is the “central mechanic” in Hyper Jam.
After every round, each player chooses a new perk that will stay with them for the rest of the match, stacking and combining with their existing perks to create stronger effects. Certain perks synergize better than others, and it’s a lot of fun to try out different strategies.
Given that perks are drafted in a snaking order, players will have to strategically plan their actions based on what perks are available and what players pick before them. The different combinations of perks allow for truly unique game scenarios that should keep the game fresh for longer.
