New Browser Extension ‘Moon’ Lets Users Pay With Crypto on Amazon
Amazon (AMZN) shoppers can now pay through Coinbase with several digital currencies including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) thanks to a new browser extension called Moon.
Adding to that functionality, any Lightning Network-enabled wallet will also soon work with Moon, as detailed in a recent report by CoinDesk. While Amazon never actually sees any of the Bitcoin, Moon’s fee-free extension layers over the payment systems, enabling instant conversion for purchases. The extension reportedly integrates directly with the Visa and Mastercard networks, in exchange for a percent of the interchange fees that merchants pay every time they receive a credit card transaction.
For LN payments, Moon CEO Ken Kruger told CoinDesk, “[The extension] will pop up a QR code and it will have the lightning invoice, which you could also copy and paste if you can’t use the QR code for some reason, and you’ll be able to pay with your favorite lightning wallet.”
Hi everyone! A quick note on Moon and lightning network: the latest update of the Moon browser extension with lightning network functionality is still being reviewed by the Chrome web store. We expect this will be done soon and will update here. Thanks!

The extension is now available for Chrome, Brave and Opera, and Lightning Network support is currently pending Chrome Web Store review. While Moon currently only works with Amazon, the website says support is coming for a variety of ecommerce sites including Etsy, AliExpress, eBay, Target and Domino’s Pizza.
Moon has raised $100K and is planning a Series A round for later this year.
