Google Bans Crypto Mining Apps From the Play Store

Google has officially banned crypto mining apps from the Play Store this week.

According to a report published by Android Police, Google recently updated its Play Store developer policies to ban apps that promote firearms, adult-themed content packaged for children and cryptocurrency miners.

With this crackdown, Google will no longer accept miner app submissions and will immediately remove a number of currently available apps, including MinerGate, Crypto Miner, and NeoNeonMiner.

Google notes that¬†apps that “remotely manage the mining of cryptocurrency” are still permitted,¬†which is similar to Apple’s recent decision to allow only mining apps that “mine outside of the device, like cloud-based mining.”

This comes after Google banning cryptocurrency mining browser extensions from the Chrome Store earlier this year after it found that 90 percent of the mining extensions developers submitted weren’t in compliance with their policies.
