Since the release of Apex Legends earlier this month, Fortnite and Epic Games have been heckled with Apex memes and gifs whenever they post on social media, as gamers embrace the competing battle royale that has broken numerous Fortnite growth records in its first two weeks.

According to the announcement, the road to the World Cup begins on April 13 with ten weekly qualifiers. Each week, Epic Games will be rewarding $1,000,000 in total prizes. From there, the top 100 solo players and top 50 duos teams will attend the World Cup Finals in New York City from July 26-28 with a $30,000,000 prize pool.

“We will continue to award $1,000,000 in cash tournaments weekly through the end of this year,” stated Epic Games. “These tournaments will feature a wider variety of modes and formats to open up the competitive playing field. We will also provide tournament tools and prizing to select partners to better serve competitive Fortnite in more countries and regions around the world on our way to awarding the full $100,000,000 in 2019.”

Epic Games also notes that it will be expanding beyond the battle royale game type with custom challenges for additional prizes throughout 2019.

This news comes as numerous esports organizations have already announced the formation of Apex Legends rosters, although no major tournaments have been announced yet.
