Fortnite’s Official Merchandise Store Only Accepts One Cryptocurrency
Last month, Epic Games quietly launched a dedicated merchandise store for its hit battle royale title, Fortnite.
Called Fortnite Retail Row, the online retail store offers t-shirts and other merchandise that mostly contain popular memes from the past and current Fortnite seasons.
Retail Row currently accepts a number of payment options, including major credit cards, PayPal and Google Pay. However, in addition to traditional methods, the store progressively supports GloBee, a global cryptocurrency payment provider which enables merchants to accept cryptocurrencies without risk.
While GloBee currently allows merchants to accept numerous cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin (BTC), Litecoin (LTC) and XRP (XRP), the Fortnite Retail Row notably only provides an option for the privacy coin Monero (XMR).
The exclusivity of Monero as a cryptocurrency option is intriguing, as no official arrangement has been announced by either party and the Monero team apparently just learned about the news.
This isn’t the first cross-over between Fortnite and cryptocurrency. As we previously reported, Unikrn, a cryptocurrency-driven esports betting platform backed by Mark Cuban, has launched UMode, a player-vs-house betting platform that enables gamers to earn fiat or crypto by betting on themselves in normal matchmaking gameplay, including League of Legends, Dota 2 and Fortnite.
