Fortnite Creator Epic Games Rakes in $3 Billion in Profits in 2018
North Carolina-based Epic Games has reportedly brought in $3 billion in profits in 2018, on the back of its wildly successful battle royale title, Fortnite.
According to a recent report by TechCrunch, which cites individuals familiar with the matter, the profit number comes from revenues derived from in-game microtransactions made on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, PC, Mac, Android and iOS.
This news comes on the back of a huge funding round that saw Epic Games raise $1.25 billion at a valuation of nearly $15 billion, with participation from major investors including Kleiner Perkins and Lightspeed Venture Partners. Data shows this was the second-largest gaming investment in history
Fortnite recently became the second fastest iOS mobile game to reach $300 million in revenue, doing so in only 200 days.
Apart from Fortnite, Epic Games generates revenue from its Unreal Engine 4, which currently fuels games such as Sea of Thieves, Soul Calibur VI, and Dragon Quest XI. The company also recently announced a new game store that boasts a generous 88% revenue share with developers.
