Epic Games and ESL Announce New Fortnite Tournament With $600K in Prizes

Fortnite fans rejoice, Epic Games has announced a partnership with ESL to host the ESL Katowice Royale, a new tournament series with $600,000 in total prizes.

According to the announcement,¬†the series will take place across two weekends and will feature 200 of the world’s best Fortnite players and influencers. There will be a $100,000 prize pool up for grabs in the Polish Edition on February 23-24 and a $500,000 prize pool at the International Edition, which is slated for March 1-3.

The event will feature a playing area encompassing 100 PCs and 100 PS4s spread over a 2,500-meter area. In addition to the pro competition, the ESL Katowice Royale will include a free-to-play area that allows amateurs the chance to win material prizes worth more than $50,000.

“ESL Katowice Royale – Featuring Fortnite will be our first international Fortnite competition and we couldn’t be more excited,” said ESL¬†Chief Product Officer Sebastian Weishaar. “Fans from all over the world know our Katowice event and bringing Fortnite as one of the world’s largest games to them feels like a great fit!”

The ESL Katowice Roayle is another addition to the growing Fortnite esports ecosystem, joining both the upcoming $500K Secret Skirmish and the Fortnite Summer Smash, which will run during the 2019 Australian Open and is set to be the largest event in Australian competitive gaming with $500K in total prizes.
