Brave Browser (BAT) Announces SpeedReader to Improve Page Performance
Brave Software, the company behind the Brave browser and Basic Attention Token (BAT), has revealed SpeedReader, a new reader mode planned for next year that will improve performance and page loading speeds.
SpeedReader is our new approach to reader mode, coming next year to the @brave browser. Beyond making pages more pleasant to read, it will have radical performance gains (speedups from 20× to 27×, bandwidth savings of 84×) plus significant privacy benefits.https://t.co/qgX1cvxcnU

According to the announcement, SpeedReader functions before page rendering, which enables the script to determine the essential resources for the page’s core content to improve loading speed and aesthetics. Based on early testing, page loading speed is up 27x and network use is reduced by 84x.
However, SpeedReader is not available for all websites and content, as it relies on sites to be readable to properly display the higher-performance pages.
According to the announcement, “SpeedReader is useful on 22% of pages in general, and with higher applicability for user-shared content, with 31% on Twitter and 42% on Reddit. Finally, 65% of content published through RSS feeds appears to be readable.”
BAT is currently up over 10% on the day to $ 0.226, giving the project a $266.4 million market cap and making it the 28th largest altcoin in the AltDex 100 Index (ALT100), a benchmark index for large-cap cryptocurrencies and tokens.
