Beijing Sci-Tech Report (BSTR), China’s longest-running tech publication that commonly goes by “Technology Life,” is reportedly enabling¬†Bitcoin (BTC) payments for the 2019¬†edition of the publication.

According to the announcement, readers of Technology Life can now pay for next year’s subscription with 0.01 bitcoin (about 450 yuan), simply by sending the payment to the publication’s specific bitcoin address.

Launched over 150 years ago, Technology Life has only recently moved into western markets. It was first introduced to the United States in 2015 and the company has plans to launch a Chinese-English version of Popular Science in 2019.

Technology Life notes that if the price of Bitcoin at the end of a subscription period is higher than what the user paid at the start, the company will refund the difference in price

It is currently unclear how this new digital currency payment option fits within the nation-wide cryptocurrency clampdown by the Chinese government.
