Amazon’s ‘New World’ Is Still Sending Out Alpha Invitations

Amazon’s (AMZN) first major game title,Ā New World, an ambitious MMO set in a savage and arcane 17th-century world, has sent out another wave of invitations to its ongoing alpha release.

New World, which is built using Amazon’s proprietary Lumberyard engine, will support up to 10,000 players in a single instance where they can venture through the massive open-world filled with supernatural forces. Players can choose from a variety of different character types, includingĀ craftspeople, mercenaries, prospectors and architects.

Players can also join forcesĀ to claim territories and leverage their dominions to consolidate power and compel loyalty. New World features magic effects that are driven by a mysterious substance called Azoth, and, cryptically, Amazon has noted that whoever controls this substance will dictate the fate of the world.

Over the past year, the game’s developer, Amazon Game Studios, has slowly been releasing screenshots showcasing various game elements, including fortress construction, alchemy and magic.

Last month, New World featured the craftsman class, which includes blacksmiths, builders, engineers, and alchemists, in a series of tweets.

The alpha has been relatively small and private to date, but Amazon has continued to roll out invitations in waves, with the most recent dropping this week.
