$10 Million ‘Magic: The Gathering’ Esports League Revealed
Magic: The Gathering, the wildly popular trading card and digital collectible card game, will be joining the world of esports in 2019 with a $10 million tournament series.

According to the announcement, which given live on stage at the Game Awards by Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast, prizes for the new esports program will be split across digital and tabletop Magic.
“Today is an extremely important day for Magic: The Gathering as we announce our commitment to esports and our Magic players by evolving our tournament structure to include a $10 Million prize pool.” said Chris Cocks, the president of Wizards of the Coast. “We are fully embracing esports and affirming Magic as a leader in the collectible card game category while providing lucrative opportunities for pros, players, sponsors, and esports partners.”
The new Magic Pro League (MPL) will feature 32 professional, top-ranked Magic players from around the world. The initial contracts for the MPL will be worth $75,000 for both play and streaming. The series will be played through weekly matchups on Magic: The Gathering Arena, which will eventually segway into the Mythic Championship events, the new flagship competitions.
The MTG Arena esports program kicks off with a $1 Million Mythic Invitational at PAX East 2019 in Boston, Massachusetts.
